Heritage Walk Signs

where to find them

All four signs are located along Leighton Road, as described below. Each sign has a locator map, colour coded to match the colour themes of the signs.

  • Small, triangular grassy area just west of Christie’s Pub, (bus stop triangle)
  • Northeast corner of Bank and Leighton, on boulevard, near the bike rack at Kasapi Park
  • Southwest corner of Fell and Leighton, just outside sports field, on boulevard
  • At southern entrance to Redfern Park, on the boulevard south of the Little Library

About the Project

In 2017, South Jubilee received a $5000 “My Great Neighbourhood” matching grant from the City of Victoria to enhance Leighton Road. A matching grant requires that the neighbourhood match the city funding in a combination of volunteer labour, donated services, donated materials and other funds raised.

A committee of three neighbourhood members, Kathleen Laird, Denise Weber, and Murray Gudmundson, has worked hundred of hour to research and write this series of four historical information signs. These signs highlight the history of the origins of some street names, significant buildings and local First Nations traditional uses of the area we now live in.
